At the Powerhouse, artists in residence Topology recently played a concert with converted Brodsky Quartet. We did a location recording and mix. Not sure what it is going to happen to the recording – but it turned out pretty well!
Topology and the Brodsky Quartet play Elvis Costello.
When Elvis Costello started working with the Brodsky Quartet, his songwriting took a whole new turn. It has been a true collaboration, with both parties meeting in the middle (Elvis famously had to laboriously master music notation, while the Brodskys found themselves improvising).
Similarly, Topology and the Brodsky Quartet will truly collaborate. The Brodskys will bring a new chamber version, scored for the two groups, of Elvis’ critically acclaimed ballet suite Il Sogno and Topology will work together with the Brodskys to compose a new work taking some of its melodic material from spoken voices of the players.
This is a fascinating meeting of musicians, resulting in truly new music.
